    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Set on 32 acres of oceanfront lawns and gardens, the Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii is a 540-room luxury hotel located within the Mauna Lani Resort on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii’s Big Island.

Amenity highlights: A 10,000-square-foot free-form pool is surrounded by 20,000 square feet of sundeck. There is also a sand-bottom toddler pool, and two roomy lava-rock hot tubs—one secluded in a lush garden, the other facing the ocean.

December 15, 2003 will mark the completion of a refurbished Spa Without Walls. The new facility will feature 15 outdoor treatment huts and massage cabanas—all set amid tropical oceanfront.

The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii offers 537 guestrooms, a full-service spa and fitness center, an award-winning tennis facility, five restaurants, and five lounges. There is also a business center, a concierge room (for booking island and ocean activities such as sunset cruises and scuba-diving excursions), and several upscale shops. Children's programs are offered as well. The family-friendly beach is a crescent of light-colored sand facing a small, round cove that remains calm except in the strongest winter storms. The waters right outside the cove are home to a colony of resident sea turtles as well as schools of neon-colored fish. During their winter migration season, humpback whales cavort barely 100 yards off the beach at the deep-water line.

All meeting rooms and all guest rooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access ($12.95 for a 24-hour period). Internet access is also available in the lobby’s Hot Spot, a wireless connectivity area that extends out about 300 square feet. T1 high-speed Internet service and Hot Spot connectivity are complimentary to Fairmont President’s Club Platinum and Gold members.

    RECREATION
Flanking both sides of the resort, the "North Course" is one of two golf courses within the Mauna Lani resort community. Rolling terrain and kiawe (mesquite) groves complete the layout, and herds of goats roam the fairways. Mauna Lani's "South Course," host to major tournaments, is a championship course that snakes through stark, rugged lava. Also onsite, tropical gardens surround a tennis complex that houses 10 courts (lessons and fitness-tennis workouts are available). There are walking/jogging trails, as well.

The Big Island also provides a wide range of other recreational opportunities, including those listed below.
